GAMEWEEK 8 MATCH BY MATCH PREVIEW ; FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE 2018/19

FPL_Locolord 2018-10-05 Others

Easily the worst week yet in terms of the predictions made. 5 incorrect predictions of winners!!!!!! There is only one match to go (GW 8) until the second International break of the season where I will be updating all the FDR charts I created pre-season which will reflect the first 8 weeks of the season giving us a better/more accurate set of statistics to complete the charts. But before we get to that break there is one more set of fixtures to try and predict starting on Friday night when Brighton take on West Ham at the Amex.

Review of gameweek 7’s predictions

pred GW7.PNG

Match : Brighton v West Ham

Key Stats:

Brighton at home last season were average at best from an attacking prospective. They failed to score in 5 of their home games and managed to score on average 1.26 goals per game.
Defensively they didn’t fare much better they blanked in 5 games and conceded 1.32 goals per game.
West Ham last season scored in 1.26 goals per game on average and blanked in 5 of their away games.
Their defense as the poorest in the league last season in the Premier League. They conceded on average 2.21 goals per game and only managed 3 clean sheets from their 19 away games.

FDR Charts:

For game week seven West Ham are ranked 8th for probability of attacking returns whilst Brighton are ranked 6th.

Prediction:

Last season’s corresponding fixture resulted in a 3-1 win for the Seagulls. Brighton have managed to score in all 3 of their home games this season but have also conceded 2 in each of these fixtures. West Ham have scored 4 and conceded 4 in their last 2 away games. This looks like a match where both sides are likely to score. I will predict a 2-2 draw.

FPL Prediction:

Don’t fancy either team to keep a clean sheet in this one but the attacking assets from each team look favourable.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Brighton 3-1 West Ham
16-17 N/A
15-16 N/A

Match : Burnley Vs Huddersfield

Key Stats:

Last season Burnley were noted for their strong defense. They kept 6 clean sheets at Turf Moor and only conceded 0.95 goals per game
As an attacking force though they were by no means prolific, they only managed to score 0.84 goals per game and blanked in 6 of their home games.
Huddersfield however were quite poor away from home last season only scoring 0.63 goals per game and blanked in 13 of their away games (68%).
Defensively they weren’t much better and only kept 3 clean sheets whilst conceding on average 1.74 goals per game in their 19 away matches.

FDR Charts:

For game week eight FDR charts Burnley are ranked 8th whilst Huddersfield are ranked 17th

Prediction:

Burnley seem to have put their poor early season form behind them and will be looking for their 3rd consecutive victory. Huddersfield have failed to score in their opening 4 away games and may again struggle against a resilient and resurgent Burnley. I would expect a low scoring win for the home side and a strong possibility of a clean sheet. I will predict a 1-0 win to Burnley.

FPL Prediction:

Burnley defensive assets look good for gameweek 8 as Huddersfield will be searching for their first away goal at the 5th time of asking.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Burnley 0-0 Huddersfield
16-17 Burnley 2-1Huddersfield
15-16 Burnley 3-2 Huddersfield

Match : Man Utd v Newcastle

Key Stats:

United defensively at home last season were very strong keeping clean sheets in 12 of the 19 games and only conceded on average 0.47 goals per game they played. Ranked 1st in the PL as a defensive unit at home.
As an attacking unit Mourinho’s men were also very strong. They only failed to score in 2 of their home matches and scored on average 2 goals per game.
Newcastle themselves were poor offensively away. They failed to score in 7 of their away games last season and only averaged 0.95 gls per game.
Defensively they were also poor away from home they conceded on average 1.58 gls per game and only kept clean sheets in 2 of their 19 away games.

FDR Charts:

For game week eight united are ranked first (bear in mind this is calculated form last season’s data) for attacking returns potential whilst Newcastle are ranked last.

Prediction:

United are really struggling this season and will be desperate for a win prior to the international break. This is the last match in a run of very difficult fixtures for Newcastle who will be defensively solid. Newcastle have kept 2 clean sheets in their 3 opening way fixtures but have only registered one goal, I expect United to nick this 1-0.

FPL Prediction:

FPL managers who have showed patience with United’s defensive assets may well be rewarded this weekend with a clean sheet highly likely.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle
16-17 Manchester United 0-0 Newcastle
15-16 Manchester United 3-1 Newcastle

Match : Crystal Palace V Wolves

Key Stats:

Crystal Palace at home last season blanked in 5 of their 19 games and scored on average 1.53 goals per game
Defensively at home they weren’t great. They only kept 4 clean sheets at home and on average conceded 1.42 goals per game
New boys Wolves last season in the championship scored on average 1.5 goals per game and only blanked in 5 of their away games
Defensively they conceded 0.9 goals per game away and managed to keep 12 clean sheets.

FDR Charts:

Crystal Palace are ranked 8th for offensive returns this week whilst Wolves are ranked 17th.

Prediction:

I will ignore the FDR charts with this prediction due to recent form. In their opening 3 games Palace have failed to find the back of the net and have kept 1 clean sheet. Wolves likewise have been goal shy away from home only scoring 2 goals in 3 away games. I expect this to be a tight game which probably won’t produce many goals. I predict a 1-0 win to Wolves.

FPL Prediction:

Defensive options look the most appetizing going into this match but I don’t expect many goals. It could be a 0-0 draw but I think Wolves are more likely to keep a clean sheet.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 N/A
16-17 N/A
15-16 N/A

Match : Fulham v Arsenal

Key Stats:

Fulham scored 1.7 goals per game on average last season in the championship at home and only failed to score in 2 home games.
Defensively they conceded on average 0.7 goals per game at home and kept 10 clean sheets
Arsenal were woeful away from the Emirates last season only winning 4 of their 19 games. They scored on average 1.05 gls per game and blanked in 5 of their 19 matches. Only twice did they manage to score more than 1 goal (5 against Everton and 3 against Palace)
Defensively they didn’t fare much better. They only kept 2 clean sheets away and conceded on average 1.63 goals per game.

FDR Charts:

The FDR charts show that Fulham are ranked 6th for offensive returns whilst Arsenal are ranked 11th.

Prediction:

Fulham were on the back end of a 3-0 hiding last weekend at Goodison and will be hoping for a stronger performance against an Arsenal side that seem to be going along nicely under the radar. Fulham are one of only 2 teams to have not recorded a clean sheet so far this season and I don’t expect this to change this weekend. Last season Arsenal’s away form was shocking but under Emery their fortunes seem to have changed. The gunners have won their last 5 PL matches including 2 away wins. However they have conceded in all 3 of their away games. I expect a high scoring win for Arsenal but only by the odd goal. A 3-2 victory for Arsenal.

FPL Prediction:

I think both sides attacking options look likely to return points but don’t expect any clean sheet points for either side.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 N/A
16-17 N/A
15-16 N/A

Match : Leicester v Everton

Key Stats:

Leicester weren’t prolific scorers at home last season in the league and managed only 1.32 goals per game on average, However they did only fail to score in 4 home games.
Defensively Leicester were ok at home last season keeping 6 clean sheets and conceding 1.16 goals per game at home.
Everton on the other hand were poor away last season and only averaged 0.84 goals per game and failed to score in 6 of their away games.
Defensively away Everton were equally as poor conceding on average 1.89 goals per game and only managing to keep 3 clean sheets.

FDR Charts:

Leicester are ranked 3rd for potential of attacking returns this weekend whilst Everton are ranked 14th.

Prediction:

So far this season both sides have been hit and miss. Everton are still to record their first away victory of the season whilst Leicester will be looking for their 3rd home win in 4 games. I expect both teams to score in this fixture which I predict will end in a 2-2 draw.

FPL Prediction:

I don’t see any signs of clean sheets in this game and both sides will score in a likely score draw.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Leicester 2-0 Everton
16-17 Leicester 0-2 Everton
15-16 Leicester 3-1 Everton

Match : Southampton v Chelsea

Key Stats:

At home last season Southampton blanked in 7 of their 19 games and only scored on average 1.05 goals per game.
Defensively they equally as poor by only keeping 3 clean sheets on conceding on average 1.37 goals per game.
Chelsea themselves were relatively strong in attacking stats last year. The scored on average 1.68 goals per game and only failed to score in 4 games.
Their defense was ok away. They only conceded on average 1.16 goals per game and managed to keep 6 clean sheets.

FDR Charts:

Southampton are ranked 14th for attacking returns whilst Chelsea are ranked 3rd.

Prediction:

Sarri has got Chelsea and in particular Hazard playing very well. Chelsea have won 2 of their 3 away games and registered to clean sheets whilst doing so. Southampton on the other hand haven’t registered a win thus far at St Mary’s and have averaged a goal a game. I predict a 3-1 win to the West Londoners.

FPL Prediction:

Is Hazard going to continue his goals scoring form? I wouldn’t bet against it. I think Hazard, Willian and if fit Pedro will be looking to register some points and they may also record another clean sheet. Southampton assets don’t look appealing this weekend.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Southampton 2-3 Chelsea
16-17 Southampton 0-2 Chelsea
15-16 Southampton 1-2 Chelsea

Match : Tottenham v Cardiff

Key Stats:

Tottenham last season scored on average 2.11 goals per game at home last season and only failed to score at home once in their 19 fixtures.
Defensively Tottenham conceded on average 0.84 goals per game at home last season and kept a clean sheet in more than half of their home matches (10).
Championship Runners-Up Scored 1.3 gls per game away from home last season and only blanked in 5 of their 23 away games.
Cardiff’s defensive record in the Championship was decent as they kept 8 clean sheets in their 23 away games and only conceded on average 1 goal per game.

FDR Charts:

Tottenham are ranked 1st for attacking returns this weekend whilst Cardiff are ranked 19th.

Prediction:

Tottenham will be looking to bounce back after losing to Barcelona 4-2 in the Champions league this week and Cardiff looks like the ideal fixture to do so. Lots of FPL managers will be looking to bring in and captain Kane if they don’t already own him. I predict a comfortable 4-0 win to Spurs.

FPL Prediction:

Both defensive and attacking options look good for Spurs this weekend despite Eriksen and Alli being ruled out. Cardiff will be looking to go to Wembley with the main purpose being damage limitation.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 N/A
16-17 N/A
15-16 N/A

Match : Liverpool v Man City

Key Stats:

Liverpool only blanked in 3 of their home games last season and managed to score on average 2.37 goals per game.
Defensively Liverpool were solid at Anfield last season keeping 12 clean sheets and only conceding on average 0.53 goals per game.
City were devastating from an attacking point of view last season. They scored on average 2.37 goals per game and only failed to find the back of the net on 1 occasion away from the Etihad
Defensively they were also very solid, particularly away. The kept clean sheets in 10 games and only conceded on average 0.68 goals per game.

FDR Charts:

Man City are the surprisingly ranked 14th this gameweek for attacking returns whilst Liverpool are ranked 11th

Prediction:

Really tight game to predict this weekend. After a blistering start Liverpool seem to have just gone off the boil a little whilst City are performing consistently. Liverpool haven’t conceded at home in the league yet this season and City look like the best equipped team to break this run. City have also recorded 2 clean sheets in their opening 3 games. Could this be the most entertaining 0-0 draw ever to be seen? The smart money says there will be goals in this game with a score draw or either team coming out on top in a 5 goal thriller. But I will stick my neck out and predict a 0-0 scoreline

FPL Prediction:

If you have City or Liverpool players. Play them.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City
16-17 Liverpool 1-0 Manchester City
15-16 Liverpool 3-0 Manchester City

Match : Watford v Bournemouth

Key Stats:

Last season Watford at home only blanked in 3 of their 19 games and averaged 1.42 goals per game.
Defensively though they are not quite as strong. They conceded on average 1.63 goals per game and managed 5 clean sheets.
As an attacking force last season Bournemouth failed to find the net in 7 of their 18 games away and only managed a goal a game on average
Defensively away is where Bournemouth had their problems last season only keeping clean sheets on 3 occasions and averaging 1.63 goals against per game.

FDR Charts:

Watford are ranked 3rd for attacking returns potential whilst Bournemouth are ranked 11th

Prediction:

Watford have scored and conceded in their last 3 home matches winning 2 and losing 1 of their 2-1 score lines. Bournemouth have failed to score in their last 2 away games and have conceded 6 goals in that time. I predict a 2-1 win to Watford.

FPL Prediction:

After a blistering start to the campaign Watford have failed to win any of their last 3 games. I think clean sheets will be hard to come by here with neither team registering more than a couple of goals.

Head 2 Head Record:

17-18 Watford 2-2 Bournemouth
16-17 Watford 2-2 Bournemouth
15-16 Watford 0-0 Bournemouth
